Head of UK/US/APAC Sales - Secure Communications. Airbus Defence and Space

Alan is the Head of UK & US sales for Secure Communications within Airbus Defence and Space Ltd. Secure Communications, the world leading provider of mission critical communication services and solutions to Governmental and Military customers. Government Communications is the only company in the world to own, operate and sell NATO compliant Military satellite bandwidth.

Alan joined Airbus in July 2007 during this time some of Alan’s key achievement include; successfully leading all post-merger Integration activities within Secure Communications, winning a number of programmes within UK and US defence markets and responsible for delivery of several key projects to UK MoD in response to urgent operational requirements.

Prior to joining Airbus, Alan had a varied and successful career in the British Army within the Royal Corps of Signals. During his 16 years in the military he worked with a number of units, including NATO seeing active service in Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Educated at the Army Apprentice College, Alan started his military career at 3rd (UK) Division and Signal Regiment. During this time Alan was responsible for managing 1st line maintenance of secure communications systems, and was later deployed as part of the Operation IFOR in Bosnia and later the Falkland Islands. In 1999, Alan was deployed to Northern Ireland as head of the technical workshop in Belfast working on vehicular based communications systems. In 2001, Alan moved to the Allied Joint Force Command in Holland, where he was second in command of one of the NATO deployable communications systems which delivered tactical voice and data communications for NATO rapid reaction headquarters. During this period Alan was also responsible for managing multinational technicians and tactical satellite assets during Operation ISAF in Kabul. In 2005, Alan moved to 4th Armoured Brigade, where he was responsible for the leadership of the brigade technical support element. During this period he managed the Multi-National Divisional systems workshop on Operation Telic in Iraq; this included mobile communication detachments in Al Qasr and Samawah. Alan was later deployed in the same year to the Falklands where he was responsible for the Island’s telephony network and strategic reach back to the UK.

Alan Dawes is a member of the IET. In his spare time he enjoys golf, cycling, reading and cooking. He is Married to Yvonne where they currently reside in March, England.
